When was the last time you Googled something? I bet you searched for something today. Did you type a single word or a phrase? We know that a single word search will bring results that are way too broad. When we search for answers, we usually type in several words. We want to be more specific, right? And when you find a website with what you were looking for then ‘Bingo’!  You stay on it for sometime, reading. That is what you want for your business or blog, right? You don’t want only visitors to your website, but you want the right kind of visitors. The kind of visitors who will stay on your site, read and buy your services or goods (visitors who will convert). For that, you need to use long tail keywords.

The point is to find those specific phrases (called long tail keywords) that will make your visitors stay on your site.  Where do you find them?

1. Answer the public

This is my favorite tool. It is free and it does generate quite a few long tail keywords. The best part it is very visual. After you search, you will see this ‘flower diagram’ with your long tail keywords. I searched for ‘vacation in France’. Here is what I’ve got.

2. Ubersuggest

Ubersuggest  is a great free tool for finding long tail keywords your audience is looking for. Search for your keyword or phrase. You can view your keywords a text; or you can download them or reset and look for new ones. You can also see your long tail keywords in a cloud. I search for ‘fluffy cats’. This is my keyword cloud.

3. Hittail

Unfortunately, Hittail is not free for everyone BUT it is free for qualified bloggers. Learn more about their free program here.

4. PPC Keyword Generator

It is  great for generating ideas for your relevant keyword phrases. Group your keywords and type them into boxes. Here is a quick tutorial.

5. Meta Glossary

Meta Glossary is a good tool for looking for relevant words and phrases. It won’t give you long tail keywords. I use it to find relevant phrases to my main keywords. For example, I’ve search for relevant terms for ‘leadership’.

Long tail keywords are not only for your blog. Use them in your social media strategy and other marketing materials, like your press releases and newsletters for better SEO.
